Asian-Style Sesame and Garlic Green Beans – A Quick and Flavorful Side Dish

In my opinion, a side dish is just as important as a main dish and it should be flavorful enough to stand on its own. Sesame oil is one of my favorite condiments to add to a vegetable dish. The flavor is bold so you don’t need much and it’s a delicious way to jazz up green beans. Once you add it to the pan, the aroma of the sesame oil lingers in your kitchen. Then you know it’s time to eat!

This recipe is so simple and very easy to prepare. If you don’t have green beans, any kind of vegetable would work fine like broccoli, snow peas or carrots. Serve this with my Crispy Salmon Fillet for the perfect dinner.

Cook garlic for about a minute, then add green beans and sesame oil.

Stir in soy sauce, then add toasted sesame seeds.

For this side dish, the garlic is actually a little more subtle tasting. Feel free to add the garlic with the beans for a stronger garlic flavor.

Are the beans supposed to be incredibly snappy at this point? I followed the cooking time and they still seemed very hard. I actually added a little chicken stock and cooked them down until the stock was gone – still tasted great!

Thanks for the feedback. Did you use the same amount of green beans?

Either way, I enjoy my beans pretty snappy so you may want to cook them a little longer to your taste. Adding chicken stock sounds like a good idea actually. Glad you enjoyed them!

These were great! Sort of agree about the cook-time– some were snappy, some were cooked just right, and that was with adding some extra time. I’ll just be sure to try more of them before finishing up. I also added cubed tofu, which soaked up the remaining soy sauce & sesame oil, and ate it over rice. Will definitely do this again – what an easy and tasty dish 🙂
